Floating Shelves: The Smart Way to Decorate Small Spaces

In most Pakistani homes — apartments in Karachi, Defence villas, compact DHA flats — floor space is premium. Floating shelves turn vertical wall space into usable, beautiful storage.

Why Floating Shelves Work

Unlike bulky wardrobes or bookshelves, floating shelves don't eat into the room. They sit flush with the wall, and because you see the floor beneath them, the room feels bigger — not smaller.

Where to Put Them

**Living room:** Above the sofa, above the TV unit, beside a window. Use them for books, plants, and objects you love.

**Bedroom:** Either side of the bed as floating nightstands, above a writing desk, or a single shelf above the door for rarely-used items.

**Kitchen:** Between cabinets for spices, oils, and jars. Open shelving makes a kitchen feel airy and accessible.

**Entryway:** A single shelf with a key holder and small tray at the entrance transforms how your home feels from the first step.

How High?

Eye-level or just above — typically 160–175cm from the floor. For shelves meant for display (plants, books), slightly higher at 180–190cm works well and keeps the visual weight off the middle of the wall.
